Donald Norton Yates (1909-1993) was born in Bangor, Maine, and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York in 1931. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Cavalry following graduation. He received his flight training at the Air Corps Flying School at Kelly Field, Texas. Leighton Ira Davis was born in 1910, in Sparta, Wisconsin. He served as commander of the Air Force Missile Test Center at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida from 1960 to 1963.
